More tidbits from around the NHL and the world of hockey:

Chris Drury (Photo: Getty Images)

– Chris Drury, unable to find a new team, called it a career on Friday. Drury played 892 games in 12 NHL seasons with 4 teams (Colorado, Calgary, Buffalo, New York). He finished with 615 career points (255 goals, 360 assists) He also played internationally in 3 Olympics, 3 IIHF championship tournaments, and 1 World Cup Of Hockey. He earned 2 silver medals in the Olympics, and one bronze in IIHF competition.

– The once highly touted Fabian Brunnström has earned a tryout with The Detroit Redwings. It will be interesting to see if he can finally show some of what was expected when he came to the NHL, or if this will be his last stop.

– Former Columbus Blue Jackets left winger Ethan Moreau signed a one year contract with The Los Angeles Kings on saturday. He should be a good depth signing in LA. (Of course, this is what Columbus thought about him…and Clark, and Rivet.)

– The Boston Bruins and Brad Marchand are back and forth in contract talks. Marchand is looking for a hefty raise for his good play last year, and The Bruins, are looking to pay, just a smidge less than what he is asking for. Im sure they will find a number they will both like before camp starts.

-The Phoenix Coyotes (yes, they are still in Phoenix) may have a buyer! Former San Jose Sharks President Greg Jamison threw his hat into the ring (along with another one of those “Mystery bidders” ), a successor to Matthew Hulsizer, who was a successor to James Reinsdorf, who both dropped out. Do The Coyotes actually get sold this time?  I guess that is the big question.

– The NHL is thinking of accepting new nets and curved glass after research and development camp tests. I applaud if they do decide to adopt both measures into the game. Safety is huge, and cured glass will prevent serious injury from things like (this) and (this) . The new nets are good because of the goalline camera, as well as the confirmation line that lets people (say… in the war room in Toronto) know the puck is completely in the net.

Rick Rypien (Photo: ESPN)

 – On one final note, Saturday marked the funeral of Rick Rypien, who passed away earlier this month. Another NHL-er gone way too soon.  A good read in the Calgary Herald (here) talking about mental illness, including depression, which was what Rypien had been suffering from for years. And it mentions the most important thing in this case, or any case of depression or mental illness, you need to be able to talk, and talk openly and honestly about it.
