Last season: 30-39-13, 73 points. 5th in Atlantic division, 14th in East.
Additions: Marty Reasoner, Brian Rolston.
Losses: Bruno Gervais, Doug Weight, Trent Hunter, Zenon Konopka, Radek Martinek, Nathan Lawson.
Offense: With top pick John Tavares set for six more years, and Josh Bailey re-upped for two, the young Islanders core is now reinforced. Along with Okposo, Moulson and Grabner, this Islander team is ready and able to make some noise this year with their top two lines.
Defense: After missing an entire 82 game season with a shoulder injury, Mark Streit is the missing piece the Islanders need to have their blueline match their forwards. With the departure of Bruno Gervais, their top D are MacDonald and Hamonic, neither who played 60 and 62 games, respectively.
Goaltending: The goaltending wheel still spins on Long Island. Last year five different men tended the nets for the Islanders, including franchise face Rick DiPietro. With his health still a huge concern, it looks as though Al Montoya will be picking up more of the slack for the oft-injured “DP”.
Prediction: 4th in the Atlantic, 12th in the East. Though the Islanders are a solid offensive team, their back end is too much in question. With their goaltending job still not secured, the team will remain playing spoiler.
Standout player: John Tavares. The team leader in points last season is a choice for captain after signing a six year, $33 million dollar contract with the franchise. The twenty year old is a solid point getter, though has the potential to be a big name star like his first overall predecessor, Steven Stamkos.
Crimespree Hockey 
How is their blue line too much in question? You have Streit who is a top 4 on most teams, Jurcina played well before his injury. Eaton is a smart blue liner, and plays very well makes pretty good decisions. Andy Mac played a lot of important shifts with a heavy shot and grew as the year went on he is the sleeper of the bunch, Hamonic was a monster for them I think he surprised most of the league with his solid play with very little experience and he takes the body. Staios is an invite but I could see him sneaking in there and he’s a solid dman.
So if it were Streit-Eaton-Hamonic-MacDonald-Jurcina-Staois thats pretty solid if you ask me. Don’t forget we don’t even know what DeHaan can do.
Goaltending is another story but with Nabokov in the mix makes for interesting competition. Poulin was brilliant, Montoya came out of nowhere and lets hope DiPietro gets hit by a bus.
I think the Atlantic is too wide open at this point to insert them as 12th. To me this team is better than any I have seen in the past 6 years as far as the Islanders go. I think they are better than what they are given credit for. I hope Pandolfo makes the team great defensively and a leader that they need with Konopka gone. Zenon was the only move I cursed Snow for this off season.
Mottau as well, played solid last year. Don’t forget the isles were one of the better teams down the stretch and set the record for man games lost. Nothing but upside.
I think they’ll be exciting to watch. Better for sure, but I’m not sold on them being a playoff contender quite yet.
I think they will squeak in like they did back in 2006-2007 last day of the season. 8th seed, I’m calling it now. So I can’t wait to read the Flyers preview Im sure it a doozy.
